We asked companies that sell products for wheelchair users to tell us what they’ve got that’s new. Here’s what they told us:

Meet market newcomer Cheelcare Companion Power Assist

Cheelcare says its new power assist, Companion, allows users to quickly connect or disconnect it from their wheelchair. Plus, it can be used with one hand and its throttle grip control is designed to reduce force on the hands. It weighs  less than 22 pounds. There’s also a line of wraps and accessories that allow users to customize their Companion.

UPnRIDE Robotics introduce a new standable wheelchair

The team that brought the ReWalk exoskeleton to market now offers the UPnRIDE standable wheelchair. They say it’s the first smart robotic mobility device that enables wheelchair users to move around while in a standing position in practically any urban environment, even on slopes and uneven surfaces. It stands, sits, high sits and automatically balances the system so the user remains vertical on forward, backward and lateral slopes.

Triumph Mobility is the exclusive supplier of Panthera reTyre traction aids

Triumph Mobility and the Swedish wheelchair company Panthera are teaming up to introduce reTyre tires skins for wheelchair tires. These skins slip over the tire to provide traction aid for conditions like rain, rugged terrain and even snow. The reTyre Traction uses Velcro attachments to fit over the user’s own wheelchair tires like a second skin, and works with existing brakes without the need to adjust them. They’re available for 24-inch rear wheels — check out the website for more specs.
