LUCI Brings Automated Safety Features to Power Wheelchairs

If the innovative designers at LUCI get their way, power wheelchair users will never have to worry about driving off a hidden curb or crashing because of an out-of-control chair. LUCI’s sensor-based system mounts between the power base and seat to provide safety features, including collision avoidance, drop-off protection, an anti-tipping alert system, cloud-based data-sharing and low-battery warnings.

A COVID-19 TRAGEDY

Losing a Friend and Caregiver

For 12 years Fausto Romero was Jose Hernandez’s caregiver. Over that time, their relationship grew much deeper than work, and they became an integral part of each other’s families. Sadly, in March, Romero died suddenly of COVID-19. Hernandez, a C5 quad and president of United Spinal’s New York City chapter, shares stories about the father figure who made such a difference in his life.
