Adaptive Surfing Comes to Rockaway Beach

California’s premiere adaptive surfing organization, Life Rolls On, is holding an adaptive surfing clinic on Rockaway Beach in Queens, N.Y., for adults and children with all types of disabilities. The event will take place on Sunday, July 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and over 200 participants are expected to attend.

Many remember that Rockaway Beach was devastated by Hurricane Sandy and it’s being slowly rebuilt. “It is being very underutilized because people still have bad memories of what occurred there,” says Alex Elugudin, spokesperson for Wheeling Forward, which organized the event. “The New York City Parks Department is incredibly excited to hold this event to get people to Rockaway Beach again, to show that the beach is back and vibrant again, and importantly to show that the beach is accessible to persons with disabilities. Help us show that the Rockaways are back!”
