Obama's Latest Disability Appointment

Jun 03 02:49

Please join me in congratulating Marcie Roth on her appointment to the brand-new post of senior advisor, disability issues, at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Roth’s job will be to try and ensure that the next time something like Katrina hits, more people with disabilities will survive.

Given Roth’s post-Katrina work while she was directing the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, this appointment makes a lot of sense. Still, given Roth’s experience working with the National Council on Independent Living, TASH, and many other major disability rights organizations, I hoped she’d be given a broader policy role, to kind of pull together that nonexistent disability policy agenda I keep harping about.

With Henry Claypool, Kathy Martinez and now Marcie Roth on board, Obama now has the nucleus of a great disability policy “dream team,” if he can get someone to pull it together, put it to work, and clue the rest of us in on what the game plan is. Sure, perhaps great things are happening behind the scenes. But what we need is transparency, to know what’s being decided for us and about us, without us knowing about it. Or, as the old disability chant goes: Nothing about us without us.

In the early 1900s, the first pens with http://www.deluxe4less.com matching pinwere made to wear on a lady'slapel. In 1915, the lapel fake pens was improved: The watch face was upside down so the replica pens wearer could read it more easily http://www.deluxe4less.com.
