I don't mind the tasteful nude photos. I'm more appauled at the obese women nudes.
I think the photos of women in chairs are realistic. Not all women that have disabilities let themselves go. I struggle with my weight and fluctuate but I set limits on my intake. I may not be the ideal but I do the best with what I have.
Most of my female friends in chairs have pretty figures, just as good as the models above.

Added, I'm a visual person too, I'd like to see more man meat frankly.

Ah, yes, I recall my body looking as good as the woman with baby when I was 21, but I still wouldn't go naked in public or in front of a camera ab or not.

These women obviously have no problem with displaying their naked bodies, that's their prerogative. The calendar pics are tastefully done. Betcha most of the camera people were men.

No, those photos are NOT realistic depictions. The wheelchair in the photos is just a prop for models who fit society's idea of "normal." Where are these women's scars? Where are the women with scoliosis, or atrophied legs or any of the other common physical components of disability? Posting photos of REAL disabled women would make a statement about not being ashamed of one's body...

That is only because in our current Western society our idealized physique is slim. Look at art through the ages, like Rubens. Tubbies all - that was the "in" look. Fashion and physique ideals are societial and change through out the ages.

As much as people with disabilities tend to be a little more understanding of other's differences and unconventional body types and abilities, we are still part of a population that is bombarded with images of what society considers beautiful. Since childhood we are told what is beautiful (Disney princesses and Barbie) and it is unrealistic and false. But, we continue to be "trained" to view that image as beautiful, even when it takes surgery to achieve and can be risky to ones health (eating disorders and breast implants.)
People with disabilities are exposed to the same media that flood society with these false definitions of what is beauty. It sucks.

But, those with unconventional beauty can live happily as long as they have inner beauty and understand that everyone is beautiful to someone.

I think all the women here are beautiful.

A good example of this is New Mobility magazine. I would like to see a picture of a twisted, atrophied body or a nice quad belly someday instead of a conventionally pretty woman in an issue. Especially for their February issue.

I don't have bad feelings toward people with an appearance that society deems beautiful or people whose disability is not an obvious part of their physique, but disability is what makes us different so it is not meaningful to see a person representing disability who just looks like an AB sitting down.

I think for me it's more that women and men that are not somewhat physically fit seem to not take care of their bodies. It's not just about aesthetics but more importantly health.
I have a somewhat Rubenesque body type. Those women were shapely but not obese.

For me plain ol’ physical attraction is not about having a “perfect” body, whether (according to an individual’s preference) that be skinny, voluptuous, athletic, AB, Disabled, or whatever, but rather it’s mostly in the woman’s attitude about herself. A woman who’s happy AND confident in her own skin is ALWAYS the most attractive woman in the room, no matter what size or shape! That said, arrogance, unkindness, and other like attributes, ALWAYS turn even the most attractive woman into the butt-ugliest. But for me, true beauty, which is light years beyond mere physical attraction, is in born in the heart. And when I’m in love, the body that carries that beautiful heart becomes the ideal that draws my eye and sets the standard of physical attraction for me.

Very eloquently stated TQ. (Besides earning you brownie points with practically every female here :p ) and I have always felt the same.

I don't think that when the people that are posting photos (myself included) they are actually thinking about love or a long term relationship, just eye candy.

Well, for me, that confident and self-loving attitude applies to what attracts me as far as eye-candy too. You can pick that up in pics too...at least that's what I'm attracted to. I'd rather see a "real" woman nude than a "fake/supposedly-perfect" one any day.

So women with fit, thinner physiques are not "real", because they happen to be the "ideal" to many, means they are fake and lack substance? That seems bigoted. We all have different preferences, it shouldn't make anyone feel lesser.

No, not at all…I apologize for not making myself understood. By “fake/supposedly-perfect” I meant idealized pics of women that have been airbrushed and fabricated, to have a more professional look about them, like you find in a magazine or advertisement. Pictures where the subjects have had something added or removed to/from how they really look, or even just ones that are too staged, I am personally less intrigued by. Honestly, I find women of ALL shapes and sizes, abilities and disabilities, attractive and sexy within the parameters of what I wrote above…I don’t make any assumptions about a persons substance based on their physical appearance. I’m just speaking to what kind of “eye-candy” I’m more aroused by, not the person in the pics’ worth as a person.

Oh, I totally agree about the airbrushing and unnaturally thin.
Some people can never meet the "ideal" (prepubescent body type), it's just not their body make up. It is very sad that girls and boys starve themselves, never happy in their own skin. On the other hand, I find trimmer body types more appealing as I think physically fit people represent self discipline and healthy lifestyles.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF IT!!!!!
