I have not always agreed with Susan. But, I feel her desire and hard work for those w/ disabilities a benefit to all. It is rare to find an individual willing to do the real hard work needed to facilitate necessary change.
Years ago The Sunshine Wheelchair Athletic Association had a couple who did most of the hard work needed to keep it afloat. There were some personality conflicts w/ some members. When I asked if any of them would give the time and effort needed to run the organization, there were no takers.
We all have different life circumstances. Using personal attacks on someone who spends so much time helping others gets us nowhere. We may disagree but, think about what would happen if those interested in helping, all stopped.
Remember, I was injured back when they tried denying access to those in w/c's in movie theaters. One early advocacy group I was involved w/ thought it would be great if we could just get someone disabled in the background of a TV show or movie. We've come a long way. We wouldn't be where we are w/out those like Susan willing to work. dash

Dan has a few blind spots and one of them is people who are overweight. He believes that all anyone has to do is eat sensibly and exercise to reach and maintain a slim body. I agree in the majority of cases. Of course he completely ignores that some people can't exercise for weight reduction because of their disability (like me with PPS) or that some people really do have a metabolic imbalance (for example those with diabetes or thyroid issues) and can't just "cut back" without suffering an adverse medical reaction.

For those of us who are not string beans I suggest ignoring him on this subject. (And ignore him on the ADA - he really doesn't know what he is talking about.) :p

Love ya PD.

u're welcome, laurie. whether susan is disabled or not really isn't the issue, after all. to me, the issue is that she is an advocate for her son, AND THERE CANNOT BE A MORE SELFLESS MOTIVE - SUSAN ADVOCATES OUT OF LOVE. when her son's life is made easier by the efforts of others, then his life is enhanced, and susan is a happy camper. the rest of us just happen reap the benefits of teddy's slowly-levelling playing field, and life is better for all of us. susan exemplifies the definition of a good parent.

it's laughable to me that some injury survivor's rudeness can even be defended and excused, but nothing surprises me.

Merry you defined his behavior as a blind spot*. Actually what he does is the opposite of failing to discriminate or judge - he discriminates and judges in every post of his I have read.

And you place the responsibility for change on others not to pay attention to him, not for him to change. Sounds like you are asking others to shut up not him.

*Merriam-Webster
Main Entry: blind spot
Function: noun
2 : an area in which one fails to exercise judgment or discrimination

I offered a suggestion. Haven't you heard - we can't control other people but we can control our reactions to them? I do consider PD to be a board friend but I didn't take him to raise (especially now that he has Judy ) - you guys can play mother hen, I don't want the job.

BTW, I also miss Susan - we seldom agreed and at times we could not be on more opposite sides of issues - but I wish she would come back.

I take antidepressants for neuropathic pain - I already told you - I ignore him when he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. Why do you let anyone's opinion bother you when they are obviously uninformed of the issues?

Merry, We all have personal opinions. Paradudes anti-woman opinion on womens' reproductive rights is one of my pet peeves. Everyones' always wrong but him? I have never understood his strong female followers feeling the need to be his "cheerleaders". Ever confused, dash

dash - I don't think there is anyone here who argues with him stronger on important issues than I do - I don't have to agree with him on everything to consider him a board friend.

I don't consider him anti-women just anti-abortion. And yes that is a woman's right issue to you and me but I don't think it is to him.

I am getting the impression that if I don't call him a dirty rotten dog and disown him you guys will claim I support his every thought and deed. I have said, to him and you, that I think he is wrong on several things.

Dan, feel free to jump in here at any point as I trash you while others claim I am supporting you.

What is there about Susan's physical condition that makes you follow her around and insult her about it? She is logical, smart, creative, active in a positive way within the disability community, and honest. The weight of a person is so irrelevant. What really matters is the size of her heart, and the depth of her compassion; and Susan measures up. So STFU!!!

Sylvana
you of anyone should talk. You've been known to follow people around with your insults. STFU is something you should practice yourself.
