I miss Xuxan...she and I TOTALLY DISAGREED about the sex toy thing LOL...but other than that she had a lot of positive energy to add to this board, and she seemed to be a genuinely kind person.

Get a grip joy, as far as I can read from these posts, and I rarely follow Susan's threads, it seems she does not have a disablty but is fat. Fat is not a disability, if she does have a disability then what is it?
Is her championing people with disabilities because she has a son with down syndrome? Why is that deserving of your comment? Good for her she adopted a child with a disability, does it mean she is an expert now? I don't think so, what is her disability and why is she being seen as the knowing all of people with disabilities?
She has good information however she sounds like a religious fanatic shoving it owon our thorats what we need to believe around disability issues...so grow up yourself (just call me molly mature, back at ya, ya fool)

The parade is not about celebrating how beautiful we are, but who we are - what we've accomplished and what we dream - and networking with people to make our dreams happen! Well, Susan, if there is anything I have learned from therapy it is that one should NEVER "should on themselves". Over and over I got that. My shrink would say "where does that should come from?" you should (this or that) because someone said you should? how far back does that should go? when did you first think it...hear it? when did it begin and why ....hearing another say you "should" is like trying to guilt someone into something..why would someone try to guilt or shame another into anything (whether it be good or bad)?
Maybe if I did what you say I should do I'd see myself in a different light? That doesn't sit well from my perspective. And you have no perspective on me. see how this gets you into trouble on a messageboard?

The stupidest thing I ever did was to admit on NM I was fat - or give out any info that would lead you to a photo of me. The fat prejudice you are allowed to exhibit on NM without anyone calling you on it is reprehensible.
Being fat has nothing to do with not being able to hear.
Being fat has nothing to do with having prosthetic implants in my leg, ankle, and foot.
Being fat has nothing to do with one leg shorter than the other.
Being fat might contribute to my sleep apnea, but since it preceeds my fatness and it runs in my family I doubt it.
Being fat probably contributes to the amount of back pain I have, but not all of it.
Being fat probably is the cause of my recently established diabetes which caused the neuropathy I was experiencing - which is thankfully now gone.
Being fat certainly contributes to the pain when I walk.
But being fat does not stop me from working 40-60 hours a week.
Being fat does not stop me from being sought out to do presentation all over the country on disability and sexuality issues.
Being fat has not prevented me from raising a severely disabled child to adulthood.
Being fat has not prevented me from becoming expert on disability access issues.
Being fat has not prevented me from having a long term quality relationship.
Being fat does not mean I am not also disabled.
Being fat does not mean I don't deserve respect.
Being fat does not mean I don't have feelings.
Susan does have some disabling conditions beside "just being fat." Additionally she and I have had some conversations and there's a whole lot more going on than what you guys all know. Certainly it's her business what she tells you guys and some things she has chosen not to disclose as is her right.
While Susan and I may not always agree on things, I like her. She has lots of good information and goes out of her way to help others. She will be missed here.

A mother\'s narrative: Reflections on life with disability.
