i thought that's what we have NM for.

Huh?

I love the gay parade!
me too, altho i've never actually been. no, the gay pride parade IS all about spectacle, as in an "invisible" minority making a public statement of visibility. that's kind of the opposite sort of thing from having a disability, which is often all TOO visible to begin with and - at least for me - something i try and minimalize when i'm out in society, not because it's a source of shame or anything but it IS an imposition.

which is why the idea of a parade just seems rather bizarre to me...

Actually there are political folk at the parade. There was a senator from California, from Iowa (can you imagine which one), and the several from Illinois. Yoshiko Dart has been to both before. She was the Grand Marshall for the first one.

It is an amazing place to do networking with people from all over the country as there is a fair of sorts after the parade with speakers, performers, etc. Lots of Californians come, but over 50% are midwesterners. Several petitions were circulated last year.

I can't wait in part because of all the people I will be able to see that I don't see that often now that I don't do the disability conference cicuit as heavily as I used to.

I got a big hotel room in Hammond, Indiana - you are welcome to come share it. It is supposed to be big enough for 6 and we are only 2 maybe 3. I'm using free rooms I got from staying in hotels while assessing the buses as a mystery rider - so you don't even need to chip in.
Susan,,, I am unable to go this year but I hope that U have the same situation next year,, I would go! Thanks!

I think that most ppl have trouble with the name...."Disability Pride". So do I, but I can overlook it. They can't. Call it somethihng else & I bet ppl's attitudes would be different. ,,,joe..

I think the closest thing you have to a disability is Munchausen Biproxy. The rest of your maladys are self inflicted. I'll bet you a nickel that if you lost 150 pounds or so you'd be able to walk again.

I doubt I would attend anything thats titled disability pride. The only way sometimes to deal with the sci is to try and blend into society as much as possible, so throwing myself into such an event would defeat everything that I struggle for. I feel it would just further isolate me. Its just the way it is for me.

you guys should get a slogan on the level of "we're here, we're queer; get used to it".

we're here, we're crips, get used to it...

All this education and she still does not get it???????? Gee whiz!!!! It finally occurred to me that this "pride" thing is all about Susan's need for attention.
Here is a project for disabled that was the best to come along:
http://www.rawbeautyproject.com
A bunch of babes(babes first) with disabilities laying in the sand showing me their tits!!!!
Here is what I hope happens...
1. Someone with real writting skills writes the media to express the views of what I feel is the VAST majority of "real" disabled people in regards to a pride-parade.
2. A few babes quitely joins the parade wearing small wet t-shirts...
Susan, I can't believe you don't get it...Is this about you?

Please. I'm sure Susan will be the only one in attendance.

Just because some don't agree with it, doesn't make it wrong, nor does it make it right to gang up on Susan's efforts.

Parades are just "feel good moments". They make me feel like I've been treated like crap, denied services, discriminated against all year and now let's celebrate so you can feel important. Politicians do not get involved with disabilities issues because we have no economical or social power like other minorities do and not because we don't put on feathers and show off on the street (pun intended).
Sorry, but I don't think that some little parades will make a difference for us; we need a bigger crip revolution.

It was a weak attempt at being snarky.

snarky doesn't translate well w/out nonverbal cues.
