And, as much as I despise that children's song & dance, it is always much better to be the cheese because you get to be the farmer the next time around.
So, it's not so bad... I never got any of that stuff, and never played any of those games. Nobody could explain the purpose, so I didn't. :p I suppose no one finds that too surprising! :p
Now, "Hide and Seek" made lots of sense. I always used that as an occasion to "wander off"--and consequently, I was never allowed to play. (My mother would scream "You weren't playing HIDE AND SEEK with him, were you???!!!!") I once hid under the porch of a vacant house overnight. Everybody hyperventilated over that, but I thought it was pretty neat! Nobody appreciated my superior hiding abilities. :p
I often think: in the modern inner-city, I'd probably die before I was 5 years old. I'm fortunate this was still the early 60s.

Respect. I believe that to be the basic foundation of a true friendship. True, respect can be extended beyond one's friends

could you of used an example of say a police officer who may be a bit rude?
and how is it that Teddy would be uncivil to the Pres?

I think respect is an attitude rather than a behavior.
To me, "friend" is a word that is loosely thrown around. I use it a lot to describe someone I know, rather than using the term "aquaintance". So, I can say I have lots of friends, but in reality there are only a few people who I consider close to me.

Respect, admiration of some facet and love. True friends are loyal YET forgiving to some extent.
Susan, I don't care for your behind scenes tactics but you still don't deserve the harsh insults.
You have a good heart and that over rules ALL. I have no doubt that you are a good friend.
