The first time I had a credit report done was when I applied for my mortgage. As my mother has the same name they were number of cards on my list that I never even had.
Mom has good credit, but I still made sure that they were all taken off my list.

It is a good idea to check your credit report yearly. Many companys offer different costs and depth of reports. Even if you are not looking at securing loans or mortages it is a good financial checkup. It is much easier to address erroneous logs and check against identity theft situations if the problems are not aged.
