Hi, I am currently taking baclofen for spasms but not getting much relief. Is there something else I should be looking instead of the baclofen. They told me to take 1 tablet (10 mg) 3 times a day. I take way more than that and still have spasms.

I've never taken anything. Just let them "run their course".
Yes, it's more than inconvenient and embarrassing at times, but it keeps your muscles in shape. I "fight" daily to keep/get my feet on the footrests, BUT I still have great muscle tone.

my fiance has major spasms, like roadrunner, he too 'fights' to keep his feet in place. oftentimes at the end of the day his arms/shoulders/back are sore from the repetition. but on the upside, he has huge arm muscles and his legs get a 'workout'.

he hasnt taken any medications to lessen the spasms, although he gets very frustrated at his spasmy legs and sore back and arms.

he is such an inspiration.

Hi, I have spasms every night, severe, or I mean I used to. now the are minimal. I have taken every anti spasm med that you can think of. Baclofen in order for it to work I would be in a stuber all the time. several years a go we found that loratab that I was already taken for pain also made the spasms better. long story short I don't have as much trouble during the day late afternoon aand night are hell. My docs and try about anything so we went toward the pain. So I stared with oxicodone, with the loratabs, the spasams got better. Now we are up to 3 20mg 3 times day with Loratabs for break out pain, 2 times a day as needed. So at night I take I take 20mg Oxicodone. loratab. 5 mg and. Before bed abou 8:00 I will take 5 mg of diasapam. All this except for the Oxicodone which is taken every 8 hrs, the rest is taken on as needed, Tey also give something to help me to sleep. I know this sounds like a lot, but it has evolved over a lot of years. I think you need to take more responcibity, for what we are taking. I stay on the computer in chat rooms sites like this one, because the people in here has gone through it.
Good Luck, And God bless

I started baclofen 2 years ago 1 10mg 3xday but my spasms are starting to happen again especially at night. They're so bad they partially dislocate my knee/hips ...

I'm allergic to just about every pain meds I've tried so hanging on by a string...

You gotta take what ya gotta take. I can't relate a whole lot to this but I do have spasms. They aren't too bad most times. There are occasions. But I'm posting just to say that I recently got a pre-op for a bladder stone I need removed and they get ya where ya have to quit taking all these meds 5-10 days...some as long as two weeks before surgery because of chance of bleeding. Stuff you would not imagine you would have to quit. If these pain meds are on the list, and one gets side effects from quitting them for that time, or one is addicted to them, then I wonder...I was told to quit taking my arthritis med for my hands and I wasn't gonna cus I thought it would be alright. All kinds of things are eliminated for surgery. Much of the holistic herbal stuff, too.

Too much baclofen can really hurt the liver function. I take baclofen and some diazepam. Maybe you can try that. There's also Tizanedine. That's no longer covered though. So I stopped that. Looks like you already got all the good advice I could think of besides other medication options.

A good range of motion routine and just staying active can sometimes help. Spasms are many times just a hint that ya need to take a leek, or poop. Other times your body could be telling you that you're sleeping on a roll of tape or the remote worked it's way under you and since you can't feel the pain, ya get spasms. Make sure to thoroughly check for any skin breakdown or even something like constipation. Hard poop trying to push it's way outa me can get me bouncen about like a little boy who needs to go pee! I just don't dance around like a fool. hehe. Ever see a lil kid who needs to pee dancing around and holden his lil member like a balloon ready to pop!, lol. That cracks me up.

I have the bacolfen-pump and it works great. I would really talk to your Dr. and YOU should really look into it. Its the best thing that has have ever worked for my spasms. They can give you different amounts of meds at different times during the day or night or if you know a around about time when there at its worst they can tell the pump at what time to give you meds. Just really check it out. From one wheelchair to another wheelchair!!!!!!!!!!
