I don't have time to look right now, but am wondering when autism was first clinically diagnosed as a disorder?

Canucks don't call it autism, they just call them canadians.
Before you get your panties in a bunch, I have a grandson with Asperger's Syndrome.

I still haven't looked too closely at this research, but did discover that a lot of things (including mental retardation) have been moved into an autism diagnosis.

Besides being fat, Americans are messed up
And yet, Canadians still aspire to be us.

It is probably not a coincidence that the USians have a very high rate of both obesity and autism, because maternal obesity significantly raises the risk of giving birth to an autistic or developmentally disabled child, according to new epidemiological research.
"ScienceDaily (Apr. 9, 2012) - A major study conducted by researchers affiliated with the UC Davis MIND Institute has found strong links between maternal diabetes and obesity and the likelihood of having a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or another developmental disorder. ... "Over 60 percent of U.S. women of childbearing age are overweight; 34 percent are obese; and 16 percent have metabolic syndrome. Nearly 9 percent of U.S. women of childbearing age are diabetic, and more than 1 percent of U.S. pregnancies were complicated by chronic hypertension. In California, where the study was conducted, 1.3 percent of women had type 2 diabetes, and 7.4 percent had gestational diabetes." ... "Over a third of U.S. women in their childbearing years are obese, and nearly one-tenth have gestational or type 2 diabetes during pregnancy. Our finding that these maternal conditions may be linked with neurodevelopmental problems in children raises concerns and therefore may have serious public-health implications," said Paula Krakowiak, a PhD Candidate in Epidemiology affiliated with the MIND Institute. "And while the study does not conclude that diabetes and obesity cause ASD and developmental delays, it suggests that fetal exposure to elevated glucose and maternal inflammation levels adversely affect fetal development."

sad to think for the first time the current children's generation will have a shorter lifespan than their parents
and it is easily preventable!

As soon as you cross the border you notice a difference, the billboard advertising, number of fast food places, size of the drinks at 7-11, six pack mentality, portion size in restraunts, different access and attitude towards filling your pie hole.
Canada obeisty rate 24.1%, USA obeisty rate 34.4%

Although the Canadians are far from the most fit population, their obesity rate is much lower than the obesity rate in the USA.
As of 2007, for persons 15 years of age and older, the obesity rates are as follows:
----------- Overweight --- Obese --- Overweight & Obese Combined
USA ---------- 33.0% ------ 34.3% ------------ 67.3% Canada ------ 31.4% ------ 15.4% ------------ 46.8%
The USians are the most obese population among 30 first-world nations, and the Canadians are the 13th most obese.

Sorry to say this but on my first trip to the USA last December, I was amazed at the amount of persons using mobility devices. My first impression was this is a country that takes care of its pwd's, and take special care to include them in all social activities. I quickly realized, however that a fair amount were using mobility devices because they were too overweight. I have never seen this in other countries.
