The reason we park close is because we are a visual hazard as well - people can't always see a wheeler.
It's not a matter of our own personal abilities to get around it's a matter of safety.
True, I have been hit twice in parking lots, you get better at spotting those who don't pay attention and it is great fun now slapping the side of the vehicle when someone is backing up, kinda wakes them up.
