Really? I just googled service dog registry and came up with several results. Are these sites bogus?

This is one of them: http://www.usservicedogregistry.org/

From what I'm reading, not bogus, just not officialy sanctioned and recognized. "Proof" is based more on demonstrating a need and showing validation of training. The law does not seem well defined. Add in the need issue (Emily has PTSD and the dog is to help out with that) and the whole transgender thing, an off duty cop moonlighting as a store security guard and the situation was primed.

I think any body disabled should come here and PQ so we can inform each other. I have learned a lot about lives in general of other disabled folks.
Greg I don't remember what your dis is as I recall it was head injury ? What ever, I don't need to know but it might help me understand you a little.

If her story is true I agree.

I don't think we here will find out though if there is outcome of it.

I have thought about training my dogs to be service dogs but since I don't just have one I will just let them be dogs.

You can choose to join a club and list your animal, why anyone would want to is beyond me, unless they get discounts on things, but there is no requirement at any level to register a service animal.

There are a number of groups who are trying to become the only ones who can certify service animals and I as well as many other advocates are against that since the requirements are as individual as the person and it adds costs we don't need.

Yet with a registered one, you could just whip out your registration card if someone had a problem with it. Like in the topic here. Yet that wont stop some a-hole from being like he was in this case.. true or false story.

I'm guessing the ones that have been training by a certified trainer i this case. Anyone can train a dog to do a few tricks. So would have to of met some guidelines. Would love to see a chihuahuas service dog. lol

If the chihuahua performs a service that mitigates an aspect of your disability then it qualifies. Like picking something up that you've dropped or alerting you to an oncoming seizure etc.

The minimum standards are canine good citizenship - basically puppy training, obedience etc

And then the training to help you - Ivan pulled my chair and opened doors. I trained him myself with a hired dog trainer.

The only requirement of proof is credible assurance - but if your service animal is unruly or uncontrollable/uncontrolled, you CAN be asked to leave

Its not a free pass to bring an untrained animal anywhere you like and exactly it wont stop people who have no real need and are just screwing the system - at our expense.
