This is an event that is more inaccessible than ever, Wounded Warrior Project KNOWS these fundraisers and events paid for out of donations are inaccessible but because wwp has said it's a "wellness" program they apparently feel that's enough to ignore the ADA which was written so disabled soldiers could get in..
they ALSO told me not to give my contact information to the soldiers - flat out said don't hand out your business cards to anyone during this event.. That just adds the icing to the cake, a charity for soldiers injured fighting for freedom is telling people they're not allowed to talk to them.. ??
I organized that event and it was completely accessible, then an able bodied guy hijacked it and now it is not.
WWP KNOWS they are paying businesses who are in violation of the ADA but if those businesses give them the $100 fee to use their name, WWP lets them arrange events that are NOT accessible.
The soldiers are too new to disability to understand they have a RIGHT to get in - especially to places that are on PUBLIC LAND = they are covered by their forest service lease as well which requires it.
The issue is WWP is everywhere and the public sees people getting carried up stairs to an event and they think - wow that guy is getting in - when it's really - crap, that guy CANT GET IN but because it's wrapped up in the fog of WWP, no one says anything.
To give a tax receipt to a business who is not in compliance with the ADA - for hosting an event for DISABLED soldiers - with approval from people who are NOT disabled or soldiers is unbelievably ironic.
