Hoveround Motorized chairs - Awful!

Hello all, this is my first post here.
My name is Robert S, Lancaster. I have been in a wheelchair for only a year now, a result of a stroke which has paralyzed much of my left side. Due to my left arm not working well, a manual wheelchair is problematic. Due to my size (6'1", 270 lbs.) I need a sturdy, good-sized chair. We ended up buying a Hoveround MPV5, which turned out to be a big mistake.
First, the positives: It is sturdy, and has a tight turning radius. The controls are pretty straightforward.
Now, the negatives: the captain's chair is hard and tilted forward a bit, often making me feel as though I will fall out of it. we have ordered a Roho cushion for it.
HOVEROUND'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABYSMALLY BAD TO THE POINT OF BEING ALMOST NON-EXISTANT. They seem to only want to sell you a chair. once you have bought it, they couldn't care less about you.
We are looking into other options now.

Invacare chairs are pretty good.. I have Pronto sure step.. It raises up so I can reach the counters. It is mainly an inside wheelchair doesn't do well outside unless it's the perfect day with no rain or snow. I use it outdoors tho'.. avoiding gravel uneven side walks that sort of things...
Really depends on what you want, if you need it for out doors use and indoor or just indoor.. Also depends on your insurance and what they are willing to pay..

I have a not-very-sensible dislike of the Invacare brand. After my stroke I was hospitalized for 11 months. during that time i noticed one day that much of the furniture in my hospital room was INVACARE. I stared at the label on my over-the-bed table until it dawned on me: INVA CARE - INVALID CARE - Holy crap, I'm an invalid! And I was - it just hadn't occured to me that the word applied to me now. So, I don't think I would like a chair of that brand.

Last week I tried an INVACARE motorized wheelchair (they are trying to find something more appropriate for me). It seemed okay, and had a tilt feature which was nice. the controls seemed too complicated though. And it seemed unstable and topheavy, but that may have just been because I wasn't used to it.

i recommend invacare to everyone... i had 3 chairs that were invacare and they never broke down and the charge held forever, i needed to charge like once a week only!
they are VERY reliable!

My friend from church had a Hoveround wheelchair and says the same thing about them not being very great. She said she thought that chair sounded great on TV, but once she got it, it sucked. She told me that it would stick constantly, causing it to move very wobbly, and she too felt like she was always going to fall out of it. It was worn out in less than a year, and the company refuses to help fix it, even though there was still a warranty on it at the time. She eventually gave up getting it fixed and her insurance covered a fancy Quickie power chair for her that tilts and reclines.

The Hoveround is great for the disabled to hover around the rim of the grand canyon as it is falling into it. hey they created the advertising i just put it thru the old twisted sense of humor.
Peace
