I have finished the book of Genesis and hand printed it into about 60 some pages in a notebook in my words as a sort of commentary in modern english. I was planning on making it a book that I want to hand manufacture to start with and maybe publish if I am happy with it when I am finished.

My latest study is all the words of Jesus, all the red letter words found in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John with a short piece in acts and the small book of Revelation. I am hand printing it also. My hand printing is really getting much better and I have been through around five ink pens that I like from the dollar store. I bought ten of them for $5 and sure like them. They are gel pens with a fine point and very nice looking and comfortable to write with. Anyway I want to compare all the specific statements attributed to Jesus by each of the authors and also to see some individual statements that only one or two of the authors put in their books. This is proving to be a very interesting way to study the bible. I may make a book of this study also. I am finding that I have so many books in my head to write. When I started I could only think of two or three book ideas but the list is growing daily and I think I must have about 25 or so subjects on the list by now. Anyway that is what I am currently working on.

I'd buy your book, Paul...wanna see a glimmer of it before I do, you know, like on Amazon.com whereby you can click to read a page or two before you buy. How ambitious of you!

An interesting approach to reading the New Testament for me has been to read the various Gospels, Epistles, etc., in the order in which they are thought to have been written. In our modern world with almost instant communication, it is hard to imagine what life must have been like in the early Christian communities. Clearly each of the communities knew some of the stories about Jesus and some communities may have had members who had seen Jesus in person; but since the earliest Gospel (Mark) is thought to have appeared around the year 65, it is unlikely that everyone in every community was familiar with all of Jesus' teachings. It would be fascinating to know which stories were known in which communities.

Many Bibles do not give the approximate dates for these writings. Those listed below come from The New Testament in Modern English by J. B. Phillips. My edition has a copyright date of 1960. It is certainly possible that in the past 50 years new information has come to light that alters some of these dates and comments. If anyone has a source giving those I hope you will post it.

50 Letter of James (Thought to be the earliest New Testament writing by some. Others doubt that James wrote it and place the date after 100)

50 Paul's first letter to the Christians in Thessalonica (earliest of Paul's known writings)

51 Paul's second letter to the Christians in Thessalonica

56 Paul's first letter to the Christians in Corinth

57 Paul's second letter to the Christians in Corinth

57 Paul's letter to the Christians in Rome

56 or 57 Paul's letter to the Christians in Galatia

62 Paul's letter to the Christians in Ephesus

62 Paul's letter to the Christians in Philippi

62 Paul's letter to Philemon

64 First letter of Peter

65 Gospel of Mark

66? First letter to Timothy (some scholars believe this was NOT written by Paul and was later, around 90 to 125)

66? Letter to Titus

67 Second letter to Timothy

67 Letter to Jewish Christians (Many scholars doubt that Paul wrote this)

65-70 Gospel of Luke and Acts of the Apostles

70-80 Letter of Jude (authorship and date questioned)

80-85 Gospel of Matthew

90 First letter of John

90 Second letter of John

90 Third letter of John

90-110 Gospel of John

95 Revelation (authorship questioned by early church)

130? Second letter of Peter (Peter's authorship is disputed and date is uncertain)

God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might

oops....

I was not quoting you, greg, just to capture your own posting in fear of you deleting it, like others have done. But I forget just what I had been planning to say in response so I won't try to do it twice. As they say, the moment is gone.

God Is just? Exactly whose God are you speaking of. The God of Israel, Allah, the Popes God, John Calvins God, mine or yours? Sell that idea in Somalia or to a young lady in Afghanistan as she is stoned. To attempt to analyze God's justice or lack of is an impossible venture with no logical rules or outcomes. No two people will ever consistently agree on the issues so one simply falls back on some cliche like it's a mystery, we cannot understand God's reasons, it was meant to be or the healthy but disabled individual for whom God has a special plan, somehow, to benefit society.
