Looks like I'll be headed to the orient in a few weeks and I am rather dreading the trip. I get uncomfortable on a 3-hr. flight let alone a 14-hr one! Anyone out there have any hints to share?

Buy, beg, steal, upgrade to or borrow a first class ticket. There is no better way Because of your positional options.

Any close friends with miles? I don't know your departure location. Going east or west? Break it up into small legs? Us to Hawaii-japan-Bangkok, etc.

I flew Denver to Frankfurt economy. Was 10-11 hours. Almost went crazy. Seatback in front against my knees. Couldn't move. Never again.

Oh well; $1,400 RT to Hong Kong, coach; Now I'll have miles on 5 different airlines! Leg from Salt Lake City to Tokyo is 11+; Think 'll try the old "It's our honeymoon" trick and see if we can get a bump.

I always arrive late and book seats way in the back. If there's a seat available up front, they often throw me in there to get the flight off on time.

Anyone have any other good tricks for getting bumped-up a class?
