Don't know if there are any tv techs around here but just got a problem with my 15 inch flatscreen tv. It has a little orange led that turns to blue when you turn the tv on. My screen went black last night. When you turn the tv off and then on again the screen lights up normally and the channel program comes on. About 20 seconds or so later the screen goes black but the sound stays on and the little blue led stays blue showing that the tv is powered up.

Been doing a search for thiis problem on the internet and found a couple of fix's. First is a couple of high capacity mini caps that tend to swell and go bad. The other is the back light for the screen and the power inverter module supplyiing power to the backlight. Anyone have any experience in this area with flatscreens or monitors? I have a background in electroniics but more than 20 years ago. I suppose I am capable of tackliing this job but maybe need some coaching if any have experience in this type of problem.
Anyone?
Paul

It sounds like a problem in the inverter module is triggering the overcurrent protection latch, which shuts down the inverter, and turns off the backlight. When you turn it off and back on, you are resetting the latch, until the fault trips it again a few seconds later.

I would check that area first, if I were troubleshooting it.

Thanks for answering Anita, sounds like I am going to have to open up and check the inverter module. Been battling a bad cold so when I feel better I will do it. I am getting used to listening wthout the video for now. :-)

Having grown up in the days of radio, I often find myself listening, rather than watching, TV.

Yes I awoke a few minutes ago and Foxnews was going on the tv but sound only. Jack Van Impe last night was strange with just the sound but interesting. I should have my tv fixed this week when I get over this stupid cold.

Well I disassembled the tv today. As normally happens the instructions read up on from the internet did not fit my tv model. Managed to get it down to the pc boards and couldn't remove them as they are secured in some fashion I could not discern. About 12 screws out and a few plastic mounting pieces broken, I managed to get about five plug in connecters plugged back in and replaced all the screws and hooked it back up. It has been playing fine now for several hours so whatever the problem it seems to have cleared itself up for now. Maybe reseating all the plugins and tugging on the pc boards may have reconnected something that was loose. Hope it stays workng cause I at this point don't know how to get into the components level without further instruction. The broken plastic cabbinet edge locks did not cause any problem on resealng the plastic halves together.
I'm pretty fortunate and the Lord is lookingout for me it seems. :-)

Sheesh I havejust spent two hours scavenging repair info off the internet for my 15 lcd Polaroid tv....nothing!!!! atleast for my model. Can't find service manual..not even one for my model. I can tear it apart but when I get down to the solder side of the PC Boards I can't free the boards to get to the component side andcan find no nfo on this. seems all the other (except for a few of my model) are more expensive large size models and t looks as if more thatn 50 percent of the polaroids out there have the same or similar problems...bad chinese components that fail!!! I know the area that is causing my problems, Annita is absolutely right in her diagnosis. I will tear into it again and am determined to pull those boards loose this time. I took every screw out holdng them and can't find anything that could be holding them down...glue maybe the culprit!! Sometimes they glue things together then solder afterward. Hope this is the case and that I can prise them off of their mounting surface. Better steer clear of cheap lcd tv's from china guys. High failure rate. Walmart they say has stopped selling polaroids of my model TLA01511C 15 inch screen..don't know for sure. I wastotally happy with operation and pix quality though and if I can find what component is causing my problem and replace it with good quality parts I should be ok. Least I am getting broke back into electronic repair..not sure it is all that great though. :-)

Sorry to hear that it's still giving you trouble.

I did a quick search on your model number, and didn't find much info either, but I was able to see what the boards look like, and the only obvious thing that I could see that might be holding them in is the retaining nuts around the connectors on the back of the set. Those connectors are soldered directly to the main board, not a separate I/O board, so to get the main board out, you have to be sure that those connectors are all released from the back panel.

Did you remove the 2 hex standoff nuts from the back of the input panel, on both sides of the VGA connector, and any other screws or nuts from around the HDMI connector, and the F-connector for the cable tv input?

No, didn't have my little crescent wrench handy and other tools. Will get back into it in a day or two. I was kind of thinking about those things too. I'll post more when I get into it.

No, it doesn't, Paul. I think I have a component failure and it is on the way to total failure so a fan would only delay the inevitable.
