Who actually thinks they have good flavor?? I hate them and find they ruin much chili I eat even chili from Wendy's which would taste pretty good without them at only .99 for a goodly sized portion. Soy bean is another bean that belongs in engines fuel tank and not the stomach for many people. It makes me sick literally in most of its food forms. Ruins peanut butter and any frozen tv dinners it appears in as a filler. Soy Licithin as a preserver doesn't seem to bother me though butmay only be because it is used iin such small amounts. To afraid to try the soy based milk...it might have a good taste or it might make me very nauseous so I won't try t. When I was younger I used to like Mornng Glory soy meat patties though and ate a lot of them. Thought they were pretty tasty..probably would make me sick these days though so I won't try it again. Hi, paul. Black bean is a common bean that a lot of people have trouble putting into their diet cus they are not use to them and they can take a time to learn to like.
I think it's great fiber and I convinced myself I liked them. Not my favorite bean though, either. Pinto and probably the northern bean are my fav but I am liking red (dark) kidney beans better these days. And surprise! I now can eat lima beans (use to go 'yuck' at the thought of them) as they are good in my recipe for 'suffering succotash', but they are the 'baby' limas.
Enjoy it all! There's really so much varieties in fruits and veges, meats, etc., that we don't really need to feel guilty for not including one thing or another in our diets. I think you eat a lot of different stuff and truly, your pink shrimp tomato soup is one I use every so often, even today. thanx

Love pinto beans with cornbread and fresh chopped onion as was raised on them and fried sliced potato's cooked with onions. I think that was our main staple and we all loved them. Got to make up some pink shrimp soup one of these days, it has been a while. Last time made it I didn't like the shrimp, maybe they were not as fresh as they should have been.
I like the big lima butter bean with added butter, salt and pepper to taste. I don't eat them regular though and every once n a while sautee some canned spinach and it is good. Don't thnk I will ever lke black bean though..took me a while to discover they didn't agree well with me. Hope you had a good thanksgiving Ronda, I broke with tradition and had a chiliburger at a local truckstop restaurant with my wife and daughter, ha. Had a few black beans but I ate them anyway. Paul

Black beans are very high in protein among other nutritients. Here is a list of some of their health benefits.

My favorite beans are pintos, which, I agree with Paul, are best with cornbread, but also good for chalupas (called "toastadas" in some parts of the country).
My favorite way to have black beans is in soup, similar to this recipe. I do not bother to puree the soup, but serve the beans whole, over rice. I also don't use dried beans, just rinse and drain a couple of cans. I rarely bother with the lemon slices.

If you have a Souper Salad franchise in your area, they often have a very good black bean soup on the menu. I have been in at least half a dozen of their restaurants here in Texas and have not seen any difference in the recipe. I always enjoy it. If there is a location in your area, you might want to check it out rather than making your own.

Ha! I have to follow the attitude of some when I mention the goodness of pea soup and peas. Don't think I will ever like black beans when Pinto's and Lima butter beans are around. I got a can of traditional refried beans with lard and added a bit of water to them with salt and pepper and a dash of Canola/sunflower or olive oil to it. Love it when I don't have time to cook up a batch of pinto's from scratch. Paul
