Letter to the EditorAtheist says: Protect religious freedom September 24, 2010 Editor, the Record:

My goal is perspective on the often-hysterical controversy surrounding the planned creation of a Muslim cultural center at 45 Park Place in New York City. I'm an atheist and find it ironic that I feel compelled to remind religious people of the importance of protecting religious freedom.

A mosque is a Muslim holy place in which only worship can be conducted. This will not be a mosque. Rather, it will be a basketball court, a culinary school, a prayer center for other religious groups (e.g. Christians, Jews, Unitarians), and a place for Muslim prayer on the 13th floor of a building abandoned by the Burlington Coat Factory.

A mosque built in the 1970s, four blocks from Ground Zero, remains without incident. St. Paul's Chapel and the Church of St. Peter are closer to Ground Zero than 45 Park Place.

The whole issue is a tempest in a "Tea" pot and IMO meant as an emotionally-laden smoke screen. It's designed to get gullible people to vote republican without looking at and thinking about their real platform.

It's also proof that the right-wingers who make a fuss about Obama supposedly not following the constitution are perfectly willing to throw it out the window when it clashes with their motives.

The US system has been in general decline for the last 30 years. The education system, infastructure, life expectancy, infant mortality, obeisty rates, underfunded social entitlement programs, failing middle class, an aging population, loss of a manufacturing base, size of the deficit, foreign debt, military expenditure are all way behind other succesful nations.

The Tea Party is just the beginning of the discontent that Americans are starting to express.

The Tea Party is just a front for the political agenda of the Koch Brothers, a pair of ultra-libertarian multi-billionares who created it and are funding it. Thinking that it's some spontaneous uprising of the people is foolishly naive.

Here's some proof:

The tea party s real grass root America up through mniddle class and also the rich and it doesn't matter where the funds are comng from Ghoti. The people are driving this new political force, not the rich. Obama's direction is totally counter to the will of the people. except for the liberal, progressive, oriented left who likes its smell of free money, taken from those who earned it.Ofcourse there are scads of those who siphoned the money off into their coffers without earning it. We will deal with those thieves next.

That is not true. Obama is doing what he said he would do and was elected by a majority of the people voting. He has been in office almost two years and so far, the things people are upset about are exactly the things the said he do. I think the people who are upset are the one's who didn't bother to vote. LOL

I stand firm behind Obama - he is doing a great job, especially considering the mess shurb left this country in.

I think the majority of the people who voted for Obama did not realize the change he was talking about would be so dreadful for America and now realize he has to go away. They screwed up royally because they were just tryiing to get away from the direction Bush was taking not realizing that both Bush and Obama are dyed in the wool progressives.

He has done a great job. Bush brought us to the brink of distruction, Obama has saved us. You don't like Obama or his policies because you are afraid of what "might happen" not because what has actually happened.

If he does nothing else in office (which of course he has) the insurance reform legislation will prove him one of the best presidents in your lifetime.

Paul, can you name specific changes Obama made that were so dreadful?

It seems he has done more or less what he said he'd do.

just the fact you can't give specifics demonstrates why

economy recovering too slowly + people's desemated net worth + continued bad employment outlook = despair

and who eventually gets the blame? the guy at the top
