I honestly don't understand why some feel that building a community center BLOCKS from the gapping hole dishonors anyone.
Did the Muslims in New York who want to build this on PRIVATE property have anything to do with 9/11? Are the Muslims in New York who want to build this terrorists? Do they have links to terrorists? Islam is the not the enemy - terrorists are.
If the Japanese wanted to build a temple aong Pearl Harbor ON PRIVATE property, we would have no right to inspect the place for possible terrorist activities without probable cause..

There are quite a few who believe and others who exploit the idea that the "west" is at war with Islam and vice versa. I even remember this mantra being expressed, by otherwise sane people, here, on NM.
One could get a chuckle ,if it weren't so pathetic, when the "radical imam" heading the mosque was shown doing a past interview on Fox preaching tolerance.

Actually, there are several Japanese Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples already around Pearl Harbor, such as the Kotohira Jinsha Temple and the Izumo Taishakyo Mission... Those knee-jerk reactionary talking heads (Beck, Rush, et al.) should do a little research before opening their mouths...
In Nagasaki, Japan, there is the Urakami Cathedral (one of Japan's largest christian churches) just a few hundred feet from "ground zero"... One of it's stained glass windows actually portrays an atomic explosion to remind worshipers of the horrors of the event and to embrace peace...

OK, forget about my analogy about Pearl Harbor. I was uninformed when I came up with that.
What is interesting and frustrating about issues such as the mosque is how quickly people take sides and as more and more information becomes available they seldom change their positions. If I recall correctly the first word of this was about a mosque to be built "at" ground zero.

See how powerful the spin can be when you really stop & think about it? We have all been subtly ingrained with the idea that we are at war with the Muslim religion. Logically we know it's not true, but it still creeps into our psyches. I don't think you really believe we are at war with the whole of the Muslim religion, yet your analogy considered the religion equal to a country with which we went to war.
Once in a while I wonder if the last 10 years have been nothing more than a cosmic joke. Ten years ago, we were arguing over hanging chads and discussing California Representative Gary Contit's affair & connection with murder victim, Chandra Levy.
Enter 9-11-01. We invade & occupy two Muslim countries, topple governments, allow the Iraqi people to try & execute their former dictator, Saddam Hussein, and pump billions of dollars and military lives into these Muslim countries; thereby, lifting up & liberating the populations. As the wars continue, we kill & are killed by Muslims.
November 2008 and the American people elect an unknown politician, the first black man to achieve the position of President of the United States. In a bizarre twist of coincidence, this black man's name is Barack Hussein Obama.
Now, our country is deep in debt. Our populations are losing jobs, houses, retirement benefits, etc. Anger is mounting toward the President & his administration. People believe he isn't our legitimate president, that he was born over seas. And that he's Muslim.
So, it comes as no surprise to those who have unfounded hatred for his presidency, that the black man would want to build a mosque on ground zero...that he would use his power to support our enemies, because one in five of us believe he is Muslim and taking down our country from the top.

Whenever Muslim/Islam conquers a country they build a big beautiful mosque such as the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and in other places to mark that country as conquered..now though we haven't been conquered as yet they want to mark us as conquered to boost the sagging ego's of the jihaders and give them the heart to keep on fighting for Allah and Islam. And most Americans are so devastatingly stupid and ignorant of Islamist goals and aims as to allow this to happen. Most Americans who want this have the brains of a slug and are being laughed to hell by these terrorist bastards who God will one day destroy where they stand. Their eyes and tongues will dissolve in their mouths from the fire power of God, right where they stand. It is what the bible says ver batem!
Mayor Bloomberg of NY is the biggest of the asses touting for this Ground Zero Mosque not realizing the goal of Islam for building this atrocity and has the mind of a slug he is so stupid!!

They don't think our constitution is humerous..only the ignorant idiots who don't want to follow it in America and say give the slamists what they want because if we don't their rights under the constitution will be broken..there is a bird in our creation who comes in and takes over another bird pairs nest. Kills their eggs or chicks and substitutes their own babies in the nest to be raised by the original pair of birds and runs them ragged and to death trying to feed those offspring by the bird terrorists. That is kind of what slam is trying to do to America right now. If there are enough Americans stupid enough to allow it ...they will succeed and the big Ground Zero Mosque will be their tombstone.

To a Christian Islam is a cancer, because of its silent deadliness. Islam is out to take over the world by whatever means it can. Christanity only wants individuals to see Christ and to make a personal choice without any retributiion if the poerson doesn't. Islam at ts final point wants to behead unbelievers and to eradicate them. That is why they want to eradcate Israel because Judaism and Christianity oppose theiir weak little pathetic book of koran andf a god who does not care about them but only uses them as a killng tool for his own purpose and in truth he is only a figment of Mohhameds imagination because Mohhamed turned on the true God of Israel and created Allah to replace the true creator of this world and existance.
