There's plenty more to it.

http://www.mediaite.com/online/usdas-shirley-sherrod-disputes-clip-of-racist-naacp-banquet-comments/

Quote:
Eloise Spooner, the wife of the farmer in question, is defending Sherrod. From an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

But (Eloise) Spooner, who considers Sherrod a “friend for life,” said the federal official worked tirelessly to help the Iron City couple hold onto their land as they faced bankruptcy back in 1986.

“Her husband told her, ‘You’re spending more time with the Spooners than you are with me,’ ” Spooner told the AJC. “She took probably two or three trips with us to Albany just to help us out.”

Spooner called Sherrod Tuesday morning.

“She’s very sad about it,” Spooner said. “She told me she was so glad we talked. I just can’t believe this is happening to her.”

i guess what goes around comes around. many white ppl have been let go for uttering things and taking out of context and ultimately leads to them losing job.

Sherrod didn't "resign."

She was fired by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

IMO, she should be reinstated.

Knee-jerk reactions can be a bitch.

Well she has a racial overtone in her speach, but don't think she should have been fired. Looks like with her viewpoint on helping the poor and taking from the rich to do it she would fit right into this administration.

*sniff sniff..., yup, I just dried my eyes and blew my nose so I could type out a big ol I AGREE, Paulwa. But, yes, she was right to resign as she had no choice but to do so after her mouth got the better of her senses. This is, no doubt in my mind, a woman who made her way up the ladder in the Ag Dept thru Peter's Principle.

edit...oh, I see she was fired. Good

Breitlbart (the originator of this hit job), posted an edited version of the original 24 year old speech in an attempt to portray her as racist.
Breitlbart was also behind the Acorn, hooker/pimp video tape.
Remember the Philly New Black Panather voter intimidation expose.
And the whole Van Jones hatchet job (btw he never went to jail as Beck claimed).
Fox News got behind all four stories and why? What do all stories have in common? They play on Negrophobia. And a "certain" type of person gobbles up the bait.

Glad she was fired? Maybe some background would help.
Her father back in 1965 was shot by a white farmer. Her brother was born a few months later, the father never saw his son.
She went off to college and while there, a few months after her father's killing the KKK burned a cross on the front lawn of her family home with her mother, sisters and baby brother inside.

She should have grown up to be a racist but if you actually listen to the tape (not just the editted version) the message is truly about RECONCILLIATION.
Many white farmers have come out to state how much she has helped them.
This is truly a good women who by the way has been offerred her job back.

BUT, why should the truth matter? It never has around here. Be patient I'm sure Fox News is preparing another fair and balanced story just for you.

She isn't the one whose mouth got the better of her senses. Shame on the Administration & NAACP for their knee-jerk reactions.

IN MY Original post i wonder why she 'quit'. but in her position she shouldnt be saying it's not about race it's about the haves and the have nots.. class warfare is heating up BIG TIME. imo the class statement was/is the problem

I don't think she said anything to be fired for, and she should get her old job back. I think her real actions on her job shows she overcame her racial tendencies, which by the way I think it would be impossible not to have concerning her tragical past. I personaly don't like her class attitude but what I think does not matter. By the way I think Fox overall has handled this whole matter correctly. I watched the Ed Show on MSNBC last nitght and what he had to say about the matter and then he hasd the black lady whonmheads up ACORN on and it was so syrupy phoney and her wordsd were sickening because we all know ACORN was caught killing chickens right in the chicken house under a spotlight!

ewww, greg, thank you for posting.
I owe a huge apology for my ignorance.

I googled and took the first link that clearly showed me I'd get the most 'words' from (I mean, I saw video link etc etc) and clicked on the Fox news one cus it had a lengthy article on it. And......even a windy bunch of words couldn't hit on it correctly.

Sorry for my rash decision. I'll tell you a story (part of it) that hasn't been spoken outside my family, ever. Not to anyone I've met. My dad was with the USDA and at one time (I was still in highschool) he was summoned to court to be chosen as one of the jury in the case against his very dear co-worker. This co-worker, whether he had the truth come out about him or Not, was to be fired. TRUTH . My father knew this, was told this, and so had the man that was accused of....but he did not quit because he had a shitload of debt he couldn't get out from under and was living in a trailer as it was.

This man committed suicide over the whole thing. He wasn't just a co-worker to my dad. They were very good friends. But, during the time back then, my dad went to court and they were weeding out the best jury members for trial and in asking questions of each...they asked my dad something and he said, 'I believe the system is a three-ring circus and a man is considered guilty until proven innocent." They immediately said, "You are dismissed". So he never served jury. His friend committed suicide and I remember it well.

Greg, thanks. I listened to the whole video before posting now, and I understand. She clearly was not speaking about the poor to create any class warfare. She used her story then to finalize it with the notion that it wasn't about the color of your skin but it was about being poor...whether you were black or white. It was and is about those who don't have acsess to legal means and getting what is right due to being poor. If that heats people up who are both black and poor...well, it will be. But more people than not understand the difference. I myself hate how fast class warfare is building. She probably quit because she knew she'd be fired. -- that is, in her mind, she thought she'd be fired.

You know yesterday i watched them handcuff the reverand baker here in my area and haul him off to jail for the second time ...neither time has his voice been heard at the school board meeting and I think that is wrong. Blacks are afraid, whites are also afraid of resegregation about to happen big-time with the new busing program. POOR people who live in certain sections...their kids will be going to the school close by them, Not bussing them across town anymore to another school. So, I figure they are not going to have the money in these poor sections of town/city for schools. Not like the schools elsewhere...it's wrong in my eyes. My own family doesn't agree with me at All. They had their kids lives strewn apart because they had to get up sooo early for bus to take them elsewhere to school and when they got off the bus at end of day it was really late...little time for study or anything. Well, I say too bad. I say "mom and dad gave us the story of how they walked 5 miles in the snow and yada yada for school. Dad was like any farmboy who had chores in the barn before and after school." Resegregation, and I don't know how else they will avoid the situation...is wrong. And yeah, so up goes the heat and anger over it. Yesterday when i saw it happen on the news in mid-day to the Reverend I said outloud, "Bless his heart, he ain't givin up!" Even with the restraining order against him getting within so many feet of the school property.
