Hi Lola, I hope that you're starting to heal and feel better now.
I just wanted to mention a few things that you should know about that medicine, pantoprazole.
First, pantoprazole isn't used to treat vomiting, and wouldn't help that problem, at all.
It's an acid blocker, called a "proton pump inhibitor", intended for people whose stomach makes too much acid, causing severe heartburn, ulcers, or whose stomach acid backs up from their stomach into their esophagus, causing esophageal erosion, a condition called GERD.
It also has some very serious side effects, including causing increased bone fractures of the hip, back, and wrist, and probably other bones too, and also causing osteoporosis or making it worse.
It was also found to be carcinogenic in laboratory animals, and to cause vitamin B-12 deficiency if taken for a long time.
In response to new studies showing just how dangerous this class of drugs can be, in May of this year, the FDA ordered the drug companies to place a prominent new warning label on these acid blockers, to alert doctors and patients to the dangers.
Considering the fact that you already suffer from osteoporosis and fractured ribs, and have unknown nodules in your lungs, I doubt very much that your doctor would prescribe this for you, or even allow you to take the OTC versions of it.
If you have a problem with vomiting, then your doctor can give you a medicine specifically for that, called an antiemetic.
But the way to treat your low sodium is to find out what is really causing it, and solve the problem at its cause.
Take care of yourself, and be well.

anita, i just vomited a bunch of liquid i am taking phenergan but it doesn't seem to help.
they say the cause of the low sodium is that i vomit too much ( gastroparesis ) but the med dilaudid that i am taking for the pain in my ribs is making me vomit even more, especially liquids. i am so afraid i am going to have a seizure
thank you SO much for taking the time to explain to me what that drug does... sorry, mrsD, but it seems i should stay away from it!
you're a doll, anita..... thank you very much again

Hey Lola, is there any kind of specialist you can go to? There has got to be a solution for you somewhere when it comes to the regurgitation.
I hope you find something that works for you. Keep at it, don't give up.

Lola, if the medicine that the doctors gave you isn't controlling the vomiting, then I would call them and let them know, because you are still in a dangerous situation. You can't keep vomiting and losing fluids and electrolytes.
Phenergan is a good anti-emetic, but if it isn't working, and you can't keep it down, your doc could switch you to something else that you don't have to swallow, like the "Scop" transdermal scopolamine patch that you stick on your skin, behind your ear. It's used mainly for motion sickness, but is also used to control nausea and vomiting caused by gastroparesis when the patient doesn't respond to other oral anti-emetics.
You can also ask your doc about trying Dilaudid suppositories instead of pills. The suppositories might cause you less nausea than the pills, while still relieving your pain.
I hope you find the answer and get well soon <3

what worries me is the hyponatremia ( low sodium ) because i could have a fatal seizure anytime
Yeah, that must be scary to deal with
thank you for your concern, i appreciate it! how's life been treating you?
I was doing really good up until about a week ago. I was boiling some pasta in the microwave and when I went to take it out, I spilled half of it in my lap (and I had shorts on). I have 2nd and 3rd degree burns from the mid point of my right thigh to my knee. It melted the skin off. All of it. I hate the hospital with a passion but I had no choice to go as infection is a major concern but I think it's on the healing road... Now, I'm out of the sun in recovery mode taking it easy.
Other than that. I've been pretty busy and enjoying what is left of summer. I'm looking forward to the tourists leaving though, the traffic has been out of control in Meredith and the surrounding areas.
Good luck in getting well and look after yourself.

Hi Lola, I've been off and on a low sodium diet for years due to an inner ear problem. My point is that when I think of all the delightful things I passed up because of the high sodium content you, with your situation, could really enjoy. V-8 (not the low sodium), nearly any fast food if your stomach can handle it, soups- and you can put salt on anything.

i see where you are coming from, paul, it sounds really good, doesn't it? the problem is that all i want to do is sleep and i can have a fatal seizure anytime. not good, huh?
ANITA!!!! i called my nurse and mentioned that a friend had mentioned the patch behind the ear and the doctor prescribed scopolamine 1.5 mg patches. i have one behind my ear right now and each patch lasts for 3 days. pretty expensive and i am poor, no med coverage ( 50 bucks for 3 patches )but i am hopeful!
please keep your fingers crossed f0r me that it works!!!!

That's very good news, Lola!!!
I have my fingers crossed that it works well for you, and I'm optimistic that it will.
I think that once you get your stomach under control, all of your symptoms will improve rapidly.
With your stomach under control, you should absorb your pain medicine better, and with less pain, you are likely to have fewer stomach problems, and more likely to keep liquid food down, and restore your sodium levels to normal.
The drowsiness and nausea are very common side effects of the pain medicine, and drowsiness is also a side effect of the anti-nausea medicines, so considering all of the medicines that you are taking, it's very normal for you to want to sleep most of the time.
I know that the patches are expensive, but hopefully you won't need them for very long, because once your ribs heal, you won't need to take pain meds, and your body will return to normal.
However, if you do need to refill your prescription for patches again, there is a program sponsored by the manufacturer that may be able to provide them to you for free.
If you have no public or private prescription coverage, and your income is below a certain amount, and your doctor writes a letter saying that you need a covered medicine, then the manufacturer will send the meds you need directly to your doctor, to give to you.
I'm not sure if the patches are covered in the program, but you can call the company during the week to explain your medical condition, and to find out if the patches are covered, and get an application, so that you can get the paperwork done before you need your next refill.
The number is: 1-800-277-2254
If the company turns you down, then I would ask your doctor or his nurse to call them on your behalf, because the company will be less likely to say no to a doctor.
Good luck!

i didn't know laconia had a hospital. but then i am not that familiar with nothern NH. I hope they treated you well, there and the food wasn't too bad. the elliot hospital in manchester has the yummyest food i have ever tasted in hospitals.
i am so sorry your leg is so bad. it's like my ribs and low sodium; very bad but at least i can't see them.
i hope you can't feel any pain..... that would be horrible.
sending you tons of healing thoughts and prayer that you mend quick
