Back in 2006 the BBC Ouch! disability message boards were warned that a hacker was using the BBC Ouch! forum to harass disabled women - both online and in their own homes. BBC Ouch! didn't listen and in early 2009, a very serious attack on a disabled woman occurred.
The woman's dog was butchered in the back garden by a group of youths, who then slashed the disabled woman with a knife for over an hour. The blog (link below), makes it very clear that there is a connection between these youths and the BBC Ouch! hacker.
This newspaper story is also interesting in that it focuses on an 'impairment' frequently found in large groups of non-disabled people - it has been defined as "collective denial".
The BBC has this problem and has still failed to deal with identity theft on its own message boards:
