Just signed in with my new HP Mini Netbook. Fathers day gift I think, though I am, paying for most of it. $283 total cost. Just came today and I just got it setup. It is just what I need and I love it so far. Got to get rid of AOL though I think. Has 60 mdays of paid Norton antyi virus but will probably go with the free antivirus I have on my laptop. Boy this is very light weight and handy for an old curmudgeon with badly artherized hands ansd fingers. 10.1 inch screen I think but extremely readable. Don't know how long the battery will stand up. Lots to test out. Really happy with it so far. Paul

Thanks, so far so good. Still got services and etc. popping up to deal with. Should all stabilize soon, as I keep feeding info to it. I need to make recovery disc's wehich I must use my laptop to receive the info from my netbook and burn it to a disc for safe keeping. Also has system restore. Need to do a bit of reading about all of this. :-) Paul

Well after a few days I am in love! This is a superb little computer. Don't have to burn any recovery disc's because this has a partitioned solid state hardrive with full permanent recovery built in. The battery runs 6 plus hours..fantastic! It operates at very close to same specs as my Toshiba with XP. I have to be careful thought with my skewed fingers hitting keys I don't want while typing which brings up suprising windows occassionaly. Just happened but this little critter recovers or directs me how to get out of them very adeptly. It has about a 5/8 size keyboard which I do like and it is light weight as a feather. Right now a little notice popped up saying HP Assistant is running a computer health analysis in progress with a butto I can click on tyo watch the analysis while it is running. I also can just click the X and banish it to do its work quietly off screen, but it isn't bothering me to just leave it run at the bottom right hand corner out of the way. Yes I have to give this lkittle bugger a AAA rating. It is first class in every respect so far. Windows 7 is great but this computer also has the option when first turned on to go to a windowless operation to do email and about 5 other functions right off the bat such as bringing up the browser, photo working files and other documents all without taking the time to bring windows up but there is also a button to call up windows if I choose to need it at any time. I am really amazed with its versatility. I plan on doing a bunch of writing with this little jewel. Just downloaded yesterday OpenOffice program that has about everything Microsoft Office has and it is totally free in cost from Java/Sun Microsystems..I think I am really going to find it very useful. I think you can download it from openoffice.org. If you need a good office program (even has a drawing section program), you really should check this out first. More to come as I learn. Paul

I'm glad you are still pleased. Does it have a wireless option? If so, can you turn that option off so it doesn't broadcast what you are doing all over the neighborhood?
I also have been very pleased with Open Office. The only problem I have with it is that I can't make it print in landscape mode. Other than that it works well. I mainly use it for word processing and keeping track of expenses.

Hi Paradocs, yes I have a button on the front edge that can turn off the wireless (it is blue tooth also..whatever that means) I just tried it and it went offline quickly. There should be a way with the firewall to stop any one from intruding into the computer. Printing landscape is also important to me so will be checking that out one day. If you find an answer let me know as I want to print out some larger small format books and booklets landscape style two sided. Paul

I haven't figured out why Open Office won't do landscape for me. Microsoft Office will, so I don't think it is my printer, although I haven't tried another printer -- I would have to borrow one from someone and download and install the proper driver. Other people have reported that Open Office prints landscape for them so I don't know. Since it doesn't do landscape, it also doesn't address #10 envelopes. That I can work around by printing address labels, which it does nicely.

It will be some time before I will be using it to print anything probly. Hope it worksd for me when the time comes. I think I prefer this much smaller computer with its small screen compared to my big laptop with its 15 inch screen. I have no problem at all with the little 10 inch screen. It is easily readable for me. Color is nice also but maybe a little paler shades. Great little computer and I am amazed that they can build it and sell it so cheaply. We'll see how it lasts and stands up. Paul

I have found this little netbook doesn't do videos smoothly, but probably was not made for that function either. Paul

Darn! I bought one of those little USB flashdrive SD card holder items that uses camera cards SD style. It was on sale for $7.99 for 2 gig, so I bought one today and got home and started to put it in the holder and guess what I found? I had bought a 2 gig a few months ago and put it in and have never even used it yet...so now I got 2 of the SD cards. How did I forget doing that? Oh well they were cheap! Paul

Well I took my netbook on a trip yesterday and played as gsame on it while Millie worked around our proprerty. Bright light makes the display kind of hard to see but managed to find a place where it was viewable. I shut it off and laid it on the floor of the car. Later when I realized the car heater was blkowing directly on it I movee it away from the heat. Later I noticed a little black square on the floor where it had been abd found it was the quotation/apostrophe cap from the computer and snapped it back onto the keyboard. Apparenytly nothing broken but don't have a clue as to what caused it to pop out in the first place. I'll have to be very careful traveling with it and need to carry it in a special case I think and keep it in there when not using it. Paul
