...where those taxes went?

I've been kind of thinking about this for years, but not in this specific way. Years back, at some point in the 90s when things were going good for almost everyone, a farmer friend of ours complained because it was the first year he'd had to pay taxes. My brother, who works for a large corporation, said he'd paid $30k in taxes for that year, and hoped he had to pay that much, or more, the next year. When the farmer asked "Why?", my brother said "because it means I made a shitload of money."

I found this article today about paying taxes and being able to designate a certain amount to an agency of your choice. It's not a bad idea.

I would be more than willing to contribute toward paying off the deficit! The article also proposed we receive a reciept for taxes paid. Also a sound idea, imo.

We have that here and what happens is that it can be designated to a school of your choice. It sounds so wonderful but every dollar that goes has to be replaced but those of us who don't do it. In reality it's the more well off schools that get the dough. And they still get the regular State amount.

i'd prefer being able to designate where I don't want my tax money to go.

I know Flicka will ask for specifics. I'll make my list when I get the option.
