I am interested in a extended cab pickup like a Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier or Chevy Colorado. Would like to know how you load your wheelchairs if you have one of these.

I have a chevy S-10 extended cab.

After folding my chair I put a sleeping bag strap(found in most camping sections at Wal-mart etc.) around it,to keep the chair from expanding and jamming on exit. Then just roll it in line with the opening behind your seat and roll it up and in the truck big wheels first.

You didn't mention what level you function at, I'm at T-12 complete.

Same here! I don't even bother with a strap. I just close the chair and back it up to the third door. I grab the chair seat with my right hand and flip the chair backwards. At the same time, I reach around the back of the driver seat with my left arm and grab the back of the chair with my hand pull it behind the seat. It's a snap. I'm T-4,5

Having never loaded my chair into a pickup, maybe I should not be commenting, but I have seen people load chairs into cars rear wheels first. I never could manage that. For me, it was easier to fold the chair, grab the footrest supports and swing the front wheels back behind the front seat. Then, after aligning the chair with the "well" between the seats, pull it in, front wheels first. I never bothered with a strap to hold it closed, either, as my hands were large enough to keep it from opening when I grabed it.

Whether this method would work for pickups, which are higher than cars, I can't say. The method of loading may depend to some extent on the chair type. I use an E&J and the footrest supports make an easy handle. On other chairs they might not.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I'm sitting sideways with my feet on the ground when I pull my chair in?

How far above the ground is the seat in your truck? I'm tall, but when I'm on a pickup seat there is no way my feet will reach the ground.

Okay dammit! Maybe my feet aren't touching the ground, but that's the position I'm in.

I DID have a 36 inseam when walking, though, and I'm only 5'3".

How high above the ground (or the seat of your chair) is your pickup seat?

It's a 2-4 inch difference.

This ain't a real pickemup truck. It's a S-10. The compact, lower to the ground type.

Just noticed you use an E&J. Didn't think they were still in business. Brings back memories of my 40# clunker E&J 1st out of rehab in '72.

Very true and, although I love my lil pickup for most things, I was disappointed that I hadn't considered anything other than ease of getting in & out myself. Suddenly I realized I couldn't legally haul more than two other people with me. It was a major flaw in my thinking at the time.

I have heard that E&J is out of business but can't confirm it. I have also heard they are making cheaper chairs but can't confirm that either. I pick up used E&J chairs when I can find them cheap and keep them on hand for spare parts.
