Millie has been going through stuff we boxed upover 50 years ago and found an oil painting I did with a frame I made back in 1958 in Texas. II satdown and painted it from memory of a Washington mountain scene with a riiver flowing through it at near sunset and finished it in about three hours. The frametook a bit longer and has thin copper patterns on a rustic panel board with star burst corners. Also an oil II did on paper made for oil painting with a rough surface..I did it in 1960 of a dark skinned island woman maybe in her 50's just a head and bust shot from a side profile. With long white/gray hair. Don't know why I chose that subject but it turned out very striking. And abox of sales posters I made for Safeway stores 1959. I was the instore artist and had a huge expensive stencil kit they bought. I had posters stuck up all over the store. Didn't have the fancy newspaper type color ads back then. II was continually making updated replacements and adding new products. Was looking at my pay stubs andI was making around $65 aweek back then for 40 hour week. I also had check stubs from Speas Vinegar plant of around $75 aweek and would come home smelling of vinegar. Baths and all would not get rid of the odor because I was in it every day. Wonder what else she may run across up there in the attic bedroom? I have been looking for 7 or 8 pure silver dollar tokens from Harolds Club in Reno. Haven't found them yet, each was 99.99percent pure and weighed 1oz. each. A grandaughter who got on drugs (now clean for a year) pilfered around up there and did take some things..hope it wasn't my silver!!

you have a few , only a few , years on me and I too reminence while looking at the accumulation of my past, such as pay vouchers for a private E-1, $68. per month.
Your posts are reasonably well written and interesting, by a person with an acceptable demeanor. You seldom cast stones, a very human weakness, give yerself a break and don't beat yerself up so badly, too late in the game for that.
Have a Happy and Holy Easter.

Thanks Boogerman, were you Army? $68 was my pay in the USAF too and I was happy toget it! Spent most of my days at a little radar site iin Sweetwater, Texas where they trained lady army fliers in WW2. I really enjoyed my time there. I put in for Thule, Greenland right out of tech school at Keesler AFB, Bilox, Miss. and they gave me Texas and I never quit thanking them for their wisdom, ha! I also basic trained at Parks AFTB near San Francisco one of the most beautiful and wonderful places a person could want. I had great basic training.
I am looking forward to playing my slide guitar for Easter service. Course I play for every service.

yeah, 4th Army, stayed there the full time with nothing to spend the $68. on 'xept beer, smokes, toothpaste, and razorblades. At least while Nikita was rattling his sabre, liberty usually amounted to AWOL, but it was easy, dareing and I enloyed it. I've mellowed out some since, or matured some. Naah, growing up's no fun.

I had a buddy in the AF who put in his four years in the AF and when he was discharged got bored and went down and enlisted in the Army for another four years.. LOL. Yeah I wouldn't want to do it all again.
