if it wasnt for the big companies mass producing, keeping costs down, youd be charged more for everything
Do you think this 'rule-of-thumb' will work for health care costs also?
it will obviously help everyone who dont or couldnt get healthcare, but will probably screw over those who pay because of limitations or things taken away
i dont know flix.......
healthcare is different than a mom and pop store buying 100 dvd players for $25 each to sell for $50, than walmart buying 5000 for $10 to sell for $35

Number 1, Lazer, where did I say you needed to buy a book? I gave you more than 1 example to look up. Why? Because there's dozens of opinions on the topic. Is peak oil real, is oil derived from dinasors, is oil a political pawn, etc,? I am not in the business of education or writing books.
I certainly don't see you giving any examples with explanations, so before you go telling me what to do ................... look in the mirror.
Second, when did you become moderator of this board? I have just as much right as you to reply anywhere on here. It might be a surprise to you however, but your permission is not required.

i believe in global warming, tho its very gradual...... heck, the polar icecaps disappearing should tell u that alone
and anyone who thinks we have unlimited fossil fuels is just a idiot....... its just a matter of time before we use it up...... 50, 100, 150, 200 maybe 250 years, who knows..... but eventually fossil fuel will be gone
think about it, although oil has been used for a thousand years for stuff, its only been about 100 years since mass produced engines have been made........ i bet we used more oil in last 75 years than in last 1000 years before it
but hey, if u wanna think the world used a million barrels of oil a month and the earth created a million to replentish that loss, enjoy your fantasy world

Global warming is a fact, BUT, not the way the elite (Al Gore, etc.) are telling it. Blaming it on us earth dwellers is the biggest bunch of hooey. ALL THE PLANETS ARE WARMING, MELTING ICE CAPS, ETC., on the planets that have them. The same as is happening here. Carbon Footprint, yeh, another big fired scheme to make some money off the peons. However, what an opportunity to make some more $$$$$$$$$$$ off the little guy. Why is it always a fact that "the other side" of the story, other facts, are given little or no coverage. Or are ridiculed in what meager press they may get. A lot of topics fall in that category. What may surprise you is that with a little more reading, research, those hypothesis hold merit too. Global warming, our fault, yeh right. Then cool off Mars, Pluto, etc.
Oil, yes we've used a lot of it. We should be inventing, researching, GREEN (solar, wind, Bloom Boxes, etc.). Is oil derived from dead dinasours to begin with? Is it running out? That's what we were taught in school but no one bothered to research the other hypothesis that oil may be a recurring product of the earth's recycling process' (through the constant recycling of dead and dying matter on this planet over thousands of years). In other words a constant supply of oil. There's a lot of evidence to suggest just that (never mind the fact that peak oil should have ran out quite a while back). Can we over use it? Possibly. If it's only being made by so much per year then yes. However, as no one knows the answer to that one yet the whole issue is very suspect in the least. Evidence suggests a lot of "found fields" for example are not exactly public knowlege. We should be persueing other green alternatives in any event. That's where our dollars should be spent.
And anyone who also wants to think the polar ice caps are melting on earth 'cause we're the cause is just an idiot living in a fantasy world.

There's certainly no absolute proof that human activity is the main cause of global warming, but there are some well-established facts that everyone should be able to agree on.
1. Fossil fuels all contain carbon and when they're burned they release CO2 into the atmosphere.
2. The industrial revolution, which started big-time about 150 years ago, relies heavily on the burning of ever-larger amounts of fossil fuels.
3. The measured amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been increasing steadily over that same 150 years and is now about 20% higher than it was back then.
4. The ice caps at the north and south poles have been getting smaller and ocean levels have risen as a result.
5. CO2 is one of several atmospheric gases that has been proven to act as a greenhouse gas.
Every one of those statements is thoroughly documented and should be accepted by anyone who is reasonably well-informed. Doesn't lead to any provable conclusions, but it sure is ominous IMO.
The main argument in favor of cutting back on our oil consumption should be so we can stop sending our money to the Middle-east, where a lot of it is likely helping to fund Islamic radicals and terrorists. Let those SOB's go back to herding goats and camels and killing each other in petty feuds the way they've been doing for over 3000 years now, and keep our noses the hell out of it.
If that helps global warming to even a tiny extent then we should see that as a side benefit.

I had hoped in posting the book title on Amazon that you would look it up and read some of the points made by the author and and others that I am sure would have come up in a Google search. Much as we'd like to think we are independent of each other and what we do that is not the case. Example: Deforesting of the rain forests. The effects are global.
Watered down oil? Really. This planet is much older than 50 years and this process has been going on all that time period. LOL, I am afraid you missed the whole premise, Lazer.

Ghoti.......well said. I agree with ALL you have said. It is ominous, very ominous. It is IMO a very excellent reason to hear the other side of the story that we are not hearing.
