why would anyone stay silent then? its either fear, money, or job...... cuz i doubt any priest just wouldnt care...... can you think of more reasons?
shakes, your right about following orders, common sense says priests follow orders, but i highly doubt catholics threatened lives like nazis did....... and absolutely wrong in both cases
my friends old neighbor was a priest, he said all the priests knew of abuse stuff and other scandals but were 'ordered' to never talk about it..... he told my friend once [when drinking, hehe] how shocked the world would be if certain things came to light..... 1 was where money went
its a whole 'secret' society..... as facts show coming to light the last 20 years

it's sad that so many high up priests/cardinals/pope knew about this and covered it up. just reading the letters that ratzinger sent is sooo chilling. all they could think of was the "reputation" of the church, not about the damage to so many ppl. they may say sorry now, but sure as hell weren't at the time. as a person who went thru this stuff myself (not with a priest by my father) sorry just doesn't cut it. especially when u know they tried to silence you and cover things up
