Got a friend that has more and more trouble with supra cath clogging up. Was wondering if anyone here uses a certain daily flush(irrigation) mixture to help keep it washed out better.
He seems to drink plenty of fluids.

My suprapubic gets clogged from time to time. I have been irrigating 2 or 3 times per week to keep it flowing. PM me if you need more info.

Thanks JB and YS.
It's not infection. A supra cath use to last him near 4 weeks, now he is lucky to get one to last 2 weeks. It's always a guessing game the 2nd week, clogs really spike his BP fast.

PM on your way YS., ty

i think the higher the number the smaller the diameter... ask doc. if so, try the 22. i use 5cc balloon 22fr bard but i use latex with silicone coating. the clear silicone dint work for me, they r too rigid and irrutated bladder simething awful.

I agree. I use the 22 FR and the latex. I had the same problem with the clear silicon catheter. My catheter plugged up a couple of times in December, I woke up feeling like my bladder was going to explode. I realized I had been slacking- off on my Uro's instructions to irrigate my bladder 2 or 3 times a week. It's a pain in the ass, but it's better than sucking the goop out of the catheter/bladder with a syringe.

ETA: The 22 is smaller diameter than the 28, but I think the size was determined when the Uro originally put the SP in.

I sent you a pm, but maybe you didn't get it. Either that or any reply didn't make it back.
I think he is on the same page as you are. Seems like once he gets up in the morning, after he gets some fluids going real good, it starts to flush that stuff out and often just clogs.
so what is your process of irrigating? If you want, pm it if it will work now.
Thanks

I have had a supra-pubic for eight years. I change it once per month. I irrigate every morning with a mixture of Renacidin. you is a solution they used it to clean out the abdominal area after they have completed a surgical procedure. Diluted 50-50 with water. There is also a Neosporin irrigation solution that comes in a brown vial. Use that combination each morning and let it dwell for five minutes or so. That should work.

My Uro told me I was the king of stone formation. He has instructed me to put the Renacidin in my bladder 2 or 3 times a week and leave it in for 30 mins. It's supposed to suppress the stone formation. I've had kidney and bladder stones, if it can help avoid more surgery I'll do it.

Oh yeah, welcome to NM, Adexpert.

i'm trying a rochester strata anti-infection catheter. the tube is soft like the latex. the area around the tube has been less inflamed--so, so far, thumbs up. i've had the strata in about 22days.
*all silicone (but malleable)

I would like to hear more about how it works for you, the all silicone I use does irritate the bladder, something more malleable would help, thanks for the post.
