Rail would be great for cities whose airports are in outlying areas like Denver, Chicago, Newark, DC, Boston and others. Rail takes one to the heart of the city. When I think of Phoenix to LA or Vegas- it's 6+ hours to either one. By hi speed rail it's probably 2. To fly its 2 hr. before flight, 1-2 hours in the air. Waiting for a gate, etc. Train is more relaxing, not so cramped, things to see, etc. Now if it's LA to NYC it's going to be more than 6 hours on a train. I understand light rail in Portland is wonderful. Goes right through the the airport and into town.
