this historian. Very interesting article. It's a contraversy
starter. The other day on Bill Moyers it was discussed that some Jewish groups of a political nature accuse other Jewish groups of being antisemetic. The accused loudly argued that the others couldn't separate being opposed to Israel's policies from antisemetism and expkained it to them.

And here I thought being Jewish could be religious affiliation and/or "race" - I know some Jewish folks who would argue they are not an "invention" LOL

I know some who are, but only when it is convenient for them to be Jewish, the rest of the time they claim to be a part of no real organized religion...convenient yet again.

OK PaulI invited me to come here and comment I guess.So being this is only to do with the Jewish race, I will comment as far as my knowledge goes on the subject and I don't know a whole lot. The basic historical Jew was originally one tribe amongst the 12 original tribes of Israel (most of you are probably as knowledgeable as I) They (all 12 tribes) according to their bible, the first five books of the Christian bible known by them as the Torah, are the chosen people of God. They do not recognize any of the books of the new testament as being true. They still watch for their Messiah to come.
At a point in time they were split up into the northern tribes and the southern tribes. Northern tribes were lost to history, leaving the southern tribes composed of the tribe of Levi, the Priestly tribe, Jewish from the tribe of Judah who was the tribe of the sceptor or the ruling class (Jesus was from the tribe of Judah but totally unrecognized as anything but a teacher), and the tribe of Benjamin. Eventually they all became known as Jews because of their Torah faith. Today Jewery is split several ways and follow different paths. Some are atheist, some agnostic, several religious off shoots of which I am only familiar with the Zionist portion of the Jews who are set on rebuilding the Temple built by Solomon so they can continue animal sacrifice as God requires them to do. That is the point we are at now and they have a mock temple that can be set up in a very short time for the priests from the tribe of Levi to practice in.They have restored all the implements used in the temple, have located some of the original oil of the annointing and an unblemished red heifer line to make holy ashes used in the ceremony I think to cleanse the altar. (Not really sure about how the red heifer is actually used.) There you have emptied my knowledge on the subject and I am gone.

Can anyone show me in the Bible where it says that Jesus was of the "tribe of Judah?" And if Jesus Christ was of the tribe of Judah then why, when Herod had all the babies around Bethlehem killed, did Rachel cry instead of Leah? Matt.2;18. The mother of Judah was Leah, not Rachel.

I've always known the Jews as being from the house of Judah (tribe) of Israel. All Israelites are now adays called Jews. I don't remember the specifics but when Israel became northern tribes and southern tribes that the southern tribes were Levites, Benjamites and Judah. The Sceptor of rulership was with them, thus the line of King David and the throne which one day would be occupied by Jesus of that lineage. The Messiah sent by God to the world. The norther tribes of Israel disappeared into the world and became lost. God knows where each human of those tribes is and went.
Wish I had more information but don't have the scriptural specifics at hand.
