Broken Acromion in shoulder

Broken Acromion

I broke the acromion in my shoulder powering through the snow
and now have to have surgery to repair it. Which means six to eight
weeks of no use of my arm. As a C6-C7 complete quad that is
problem.

Has anyone else done this or been without their wing for this long?

rent a power chair?

i'm c4-5 so i'm in power chair, but i dont know what i'd do if i ruined my right arm

Rich - Have had both shoulder's replaced (T7 para)and had about 6 weeks of no weight on it! After surgery, went into local rehab floor of hospital, since I could not do anything for myself!

Thanks for answering

The surgery is scheduled for 12/28 where they will
wire and screw the acromion together.

The surgeon said no weight bearing for six to eight weeks,
limited movement until it is known how the healing is progressing.

Where I will rehab is still up in the air. Lots of options
once I'm in the system. Got a OT insider who can help.

I'd rather have it fixed now and regain some of my independence
in the future before I destroy the shoulder with all of the popping
and grinding it is doing now.

Little Mark the surgeon told me shoulder replacements in quads
run into trouble because of propriocetion issues. With you being a
para I hope you are able to avoid such troubles.

Rich - Know you probably are not able to get back to computing, but am curious how the surgery went? Wish you a quick recovery!

Thank You for the interest Mark

The surgery went well and everyone
says i have a great looking scar.

I'm finally back home after 3 weeks in the hospital
and 4+ weeks in a rehab/skilled nursing facility
where I was easily the youngest person there.

Still a month away from actual weight bearing
on the right arm. Until then I'm using a hoyer
to transfer. The surgeon sprung the extra
month on me at the first checkup.

The home aide service is still trying to get a
consistent set of aides lined up. I'll take the
uncertainty because being home is much
better than dealing with the noise and low level
chaos that a facility system runs with day
and night.

I did enjoy the people who were all caring
and fun to banter with. The food wasn't
bad also since there was always an acceptable
alternative. Still I'd rehab at home right
out of the hospital if I had to do it over again.

Dang sorry to hear that. I've been in a chair for 33yrs. now (T-5&6 crushed incomplete para) and I'm so worried about something like that happening. I wish you all the best and for a fast recovery.
