Caller ID spoofing

According to a small blurb in the March 2012 issue of CONSUMER REPORTS (page 9), technology now exists that allows for fake names and numbers to appear on your Caller ID. By logging onto one of several websites and paying a small fee, scammers can create a name and number they want to appear to be calling from.

Be very careful if the call appears to be from a bank or creditor. Do not give out any personal information. Instead, hang up and call the bank or creditor at the number on your statement.

Re: Caller ID spoofing

That is VERY true - it works on cell phones as well including TEXTS - they can spoof the sender - a friend was involved with a guy and another girl wanted her out of the picture so the other girl sent HERSELF nasty ignorant texts using my friends number - and of course, since it had my friends number on it - the guy believed the other girl..

I believe those services should be illegal or it should be a crime to falsely identify yourself especially when we pay for the phone service and services they are using - meaning calling our phones.
