The excitement of the Paralympics is rarely seen on American television but in February, PBS will show Ice Warriors: USA Sled Hockey, a behind-the-scenes documentary on the U.S. Sled Hockey team as they prepare to defend their gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in March. Sled Hockey,is a fast-paced brand of ice hockey where seated players battle with their sticks, sled runners and the serrated ice picks used to propel their sleds. Filmmakers give viewers intimate access as they accompany the team at training camps and competitions, in the locker rooms and in the athletes’ homes. The road to Sochi is a long one and viewers will witness the camaraderie of the team as they face struggles and achieve triumphs together.

Judith Vecchione, the film’s executive producer, is excited to profile this diverse group of athletes. “Ice Warriors will challenge preconceptions and assumptions about the capabilities of people with disabilities and help celebrate the contributions that Paralympians make to sports and to their countries,” she says.

The sled hockey team will compete in Sochi, Russia from March 7-16, 2014. Ice Warriors is set to premiere on PBS on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at 10 p.m. Check your local listings for the date and time in your area.
