My Gimpy Life Nominated for Awards

The breakthrough online comedy series, My Gimpy Life, has been nominated for four awards by the International Academy of Web Television Awards. Based on the life of Hollywood actress and paraplegic Teal Sherer, the show has been well received by viewers. Sherer says it’s important viewers see disability as something that can be laughed about and that people with disabilities have a sense of humor. “It feels really validating that people like the show and we’re being recognized for it,” says Sherer.

There is demand for more shows, but Sherer says that will depend on funding. A Kickstarter campaign may be launched in early 2013. Sherer likes Kickstarter because she says it could grow a more dedicated audience. “I think it’s cool because it lets people feel like they’re involved, and lets them have a voice.”

The winners will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at a live ceremony at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
